Will God Still Love Me Even When I’m Broken?
There was a time in my life when I truly believed that my brokenness made me unworthy of God’s love. I thought I had to fix myself, clean up my past, and become “good enough” before coming to Him. But I was wrong. What I’ve learned through my own walk with Jesus is that God doesn’t love us in spite of our brokenness; He loves us through it.
For a long time after escaping my abusive marriage, I carried deep feelings of shame, and unworthiness. I would pray, but part of me believed that maybe God was disappointed in me. I didn’t think someone as broken as me could be used by Him. But the more I sought Him. through tears and prayer, the more I began to see that God meets us exactly where we are, not where we think we should be.
The truth is, God loves broken people. He’s not waiting for perfection; He’s waiting for surrender. When I started giving my pain to Jesus, that’s when healing truly began. He took the pieces of my shattered heart and began creating something beautiful - a testimony that now helps me encourage others.
God’s Word Reminds Us:
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
Whenever I feel like I’m not enough, I remind myself that God’s love isn’t earned; it’s freely given. He loves me right where I am, even in my mess.
Practical Ways to Draw Closer to God in Your Brokenness:
If you’re in a season of feeling unworthy, here are a few things that helped me draw closer to God when I felt too broken to be loved:
1. Be honest with God in prayer. You don’t have to have perfect words. Just talk to Him, even if it’s through tears. Tell Him how you feel. He already knows your heart.
2. Read one verse a day. On days when I couldn’t focus, I’d cling to just one promise. like a lifeline.
- 2 Corinthians 12:9: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." God's grace, not our strength or merit, is what sustains us."
- Ephesians 2:8-9: "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works..."
- Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit"
3. Surround yourself with truth. Listen to worship music, Christian podcasts, or devotionals that remind you who God says you are - loved, chosen, and forgiven.
4. Let go of perfection. Healing is a process. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Take it one day at a time and trust that God is working, even when you can’t see it.
I’ve learned that God doesn’t love a perfect version of us; He loves us right now, in our brokenness and pain. And He specializes in turning our broken pieces into something beautiful.
So if you’re wondering, “Will God still love me even when I’m broken?” ...
The answer is yes. A thousand times, yes. Come to Him just as you are. Bring Him your mess. Bring Him your pain. Because that’s exactly where His healing begins.
With love and faith,
