When God Feels Silent: 7 Biblical Truths to Hold Onto in a Hard Season
There was a season in my life when I kept asking the same question over and over again:
Why does God feel so far away?
I was praying. I was trying. I was doing everything I thought I was supposed to do… but it felt like God was silent in my life.
No answers.
No direction.
Just silence.
And in that silence, my mind started to fill in the blanks.
Maybe He doesn’t want me.
Maybe I’ve done something wrong.
Maybe I’m not good enough.
That season was one of the hardest I’ve ever walked through.
After leaving my abusive marriage, I thought the hardest part was over. I thought once I took that step, everything would start falling into place. But instead, there were years of rebuilding… years of stress, financial struggle, and trying to hold everything together for my kids.
And in the middle of all of it, I felt like God had gone quiet.
I couldn’t understand why He would bring me this far… just to leave me here struggling.
But what I see now - what I couldn’t see then - is this:
God was never silent.
He was working in ways I didn’t yet understand.
If you’re in a season right now where God feels distant, I want to gently remind you of these truths that carried me through.
1. God’s silence does not mean His absence
Just because you can’t hear Him doesn’t mean He isn’t there.
Looking back, I can see how God was protecting me, guiding me, and even answering prayers I didn’t realize were being answered.
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
2. God is still working behind the scenes
Some of the biggest things God was doing in my life were happening quietly, without immediate results I could see.
He was strengthening me. Preparing me. Changing me.
Even in silence, God is moving.
3. Feelings are not facts
There were so many days I felt alone.
But feelings don’t always tell the truth.
God’s Word does.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7
4. Silence can be an invitation to draw closer
I used to think silence meant distance.
Now I see it as an invitation.
To pray more honestly.
To sit longer in His presence.
To seek Him, not just His answers.
5. God often speaks through His Word
When my emotions were loud, scripture became my anchor.
Even one verse could shift my entire mindset and remind me of what was true.
If you don’t know where to start, start small. God will meet you there.
6. Waiting seasons are not wasted seasons
I know how hard it is to wait, especially when life feels overwhelming and uncertain.
But that waiting season?
It’s where God was building my faith, my strength, and my dependence on Him.
He was preparing me for the life I’m living now… even when I didn’t see it.
7. One day, you will see what God was doing
There are moments now, simple, peaceful, beautiful moments with my kids, where I stop and realize:
This is what I prayed for.
Back then, I couldn’t see how any of it would work out.
But God was writing a story I couldn’t yet understand.
And He’s doing the same for you.
Sweet friend, if you’re in a season where God feels silent, please don’t lose heart.
I know how heavy it feels. I know how easy it is to believe you’ve been forgotten.
But you haven’t.
God is closer than you think.
He is working more than you can see.
And He is faithful... even in the silence.
Hold onto Him, even when you don’t hear Him.
Because one day, you will look back and realize…
He was there all along.
