Hello friend,
Valentine’s Day looks a little different for me these days. As a divorced mom in my 40s, it’s not exactly the picture-perfect scene of flowers, chocolates, and romantic candlelit dinners you see in commercials. And honestly? I’m okay with that.
For a long time, this holiday felt like a reminder of what I didn’t have. I’d scroll through social media and see posts of happy couples exchanging gifts, and it stung a little. But over time, I realized something—love isn’t just about romance. It’s not about grand gestures or the perfect Valentine’s date. Love is so much bigger than that.
It’s the love I have for my children, the moments spent laughing with family, the deep friendships that have carried me through hard seasons. And most importantly, it’s the never-ending, unconditional love that God pours out on me every single day.
1 John 4:9-10 reminds us of what real love looks like: “This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
God’s love isn’t based on what we do or don’t have. It’s constant, unchanging, and greater than anything this world could offer. It’s the kind of love that meets us in our broken places and reminds us that we are worthy, chosen, and deeply cherished.
So this Valentine’s Day, instead of focusing on what’s missing, I’m choosing to celebrate the love that’s all around me. Maybe that means a simple dinner with my kids, sending a thoughtful text to a friend, or just taking a moment to thank God for His endless love.
If you’re feeling a little left out this Valentine’s Day, I want to remind you—you are not forgotten. You are loved beyond measure by a God who sees you, knows you, and calls you His own. That kind of love is worth celebrating every single day.
With love,
Kimberly
