Finding the Small Blessings in the Winter Blues šŸ˜Šā„

Hello friend,

I don’t know about you, but this time of year always feels a little tough for me. The days are short, the evenings come too soon, and the cold has a way of making everything feel heavier. Snow piles up, the skies stay gray, and somewhere in the midst of it all, I start to feel down and unmotivated.

It’s as though the winter stretches on forever, and with it comes the temptation to focus on everything that feels hard or lacking. It’s so easy to get caught up in the dreariness of it all. Some days, I just want to curl up and wish it all away.

But I’ve learned something important in these seasons of struggle: even in the grayest, coldest days, there are still blessings to be found - sometimes in the very things that feel overwhelming. Waking up early for work, tackling a long day of two jobs, coming home exhausted but still cooking dinner, trying to keep the house clean, and being there for my kids.Ā  But, when I shift my perspective, I can see God’s hand in these everyday moments. I’m learning to see these responsibilities not as burdens, but as blessings.

Philippians 4:8 encourages us to shift our focus in this way. ā€œFinally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.ā€

When I intentionally look for the lovely and admirable, even in the mundane, it lifts my spirit. It doesn’t erase the challenges or make the snow go away, but it reminds me that God is always present, even in the winter blues.

So on days when the cold feels like it’s seeping into my soul, I start small. I write down one thing I’m grateful for - just one. And then another. Before I know it, the list grows, and my heart begins to feel a little lighter.

Friend, if you’re finding it hard to stay positive right now, I encourage you to take a moment and look around. What’s one thing you can thank God for today? It doesn’t have to be big or extraordinary. It might be as simple as the smell of fresh coffee or the sound of your favorite song.

God is present in every moment, even the ones that feel ordinary or heavy. He’s working, even in the quiet seasons, reminding us of His goodness and faithfulness. Let’s hold onto that truth together and keep our eyes open for the small blessings He places in our path each day.
