Where Is God When I am Struggling?

Where Is God When I am Struggling?

Everything changed for me when I learned the answer to that question. God is right there with me waiting for me to give it all to Him & to trust Him.

I learned that God’s strength is made perfect in my weakness. He doesn’t expect me to be the brave, strong, self-sufficient one, carrying everything on my own. When I finally gave all my worries, fears, and plans to Christ, and truly and completely trusted Him, my stress melted away, my anxiety diminished, and I experienced a profound peace I had only prayed for.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
(2 Corinthians 12:9)

My Story: Learning to Let Go

I remember how hard I tried to hold it all together, emotionally, financially, spiritually, especially after escaping my abusive marriage. I felt broken, unworthy, and convinced I didn’t deserve more. Even after I left, the struggle continued: legal battles, emotional trauma, rebuilding life for my kids and me while my ex continued trying to destroy everything I had rebuilt.

I carried the weight of it all on my shoulders, overthinking every decision, feeling anxious, overwhelmed and completely stressed at all times. For years, I believed strength meant self-reliance. But over time, God gently taught me a different truth: weakness is the perfect place for His grace to become real. Allowing Him to carry me was not a sign of failure ... it was the moment I began to truly live again.

 Practical Steps When You’re Struggling

1. Admit Your Weakness in Prayer
Start by honestly telling God how weary you feel. Ask Him to carry the burden you can’t. (1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.”)

2. Rest in His Grace, Not Your Performance
Let go of striving. Remind yourself: His grace is all you need. You don’t have to earn His favor; He freely gives it.

3. Replace Overthinking with Trust
When anxious thoughts crowd your mind, take them captive (2 Cor 10:5). Shift your focus by meditating on God’s promises instead of rehearsing worst-case scenarios.

4. Celebrate Small Faith-Filled Steps
Did you pray instead of panic today? Did you lean in when afraid rather than isolate? Even holding on is faith. Acknowledge those moments show that God is working.

5. Lean on God-Given Community
Weakness isn’t meant to be faced alone. Reach out and share your struggle with a trusted friend, pastor, or counselor who can speak truth over your life.

6. Journal How God Carries You
Writing down answered prayers, small comforts, or even emerging peace helps you see His faithfulness over time. It builds trust when trial returns.

If you’re in a season where you feel stressed, anxious and overwhelmed, take heart, friend. God doesn’t ask you to be the strong one. He asks you to give it to Him.

When we let Him be strong in our weakness, He becomes our strength, not just for the moment, but for every step onward.
