How Does Faith Help When Life Gets Hard?

How Does Faith Help When Life Gets Hard?

Hi Friend,

I don’t know about you, but I’ve spent a lot of time in my life feeling like everything was on my shoulders. When things went wrong, I thought it was my job to fix it. I overthought every situation, ran through a hundred different worst-case scenarios in my head, and stressed myself out so badly that I felt it physically ... tension headaches, exhaustion, even feeling sick to my stomach. And the hardest part? I truly believed I had to figure it all out on my own.

But here’s what I’m learning in my faith journey - God never intended for me to carry it all. He doesn’t want me to stress myself into the ground trying to control things that were never mine to control. Instead, He calls me to trust Him. Completely.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3:5-6

I’m not going to say that learning to fully trust God is easy—it’s not. But when I look back, I can see so many times when I thought things were falling apart, but God was actually holding it all together. I’ve been through seasons where I didn’t know how I was going to make it, but I did. And not because of my own strength, but because God was carrying me through.

So, when life gets hard, when the stress and the worries feel overwhelming, here are some things that help me keep my faith strong:

  1. Pray First, Not Last – Instead of letting my mind spiral with all the ‘what-ifs,’ I’m learning to bring everything to God first. Even if I don’t have the right words, just saying, “Lord, I need You” is enough.

  2. Remember God’s Faithfulness – When I’m struggling, I remind myself of all the times God has come through for me before. Writing down answered prayers or even reading back through old journals helps me remember that if He was faithful then, He’ll be faithful now.

  3. Read Scripture That Grounds You – God’s Word is full of reminders that He is in control. One verse that helps me when I’m overwhelmed is Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

  4. Let Go and Trust His Plan – This is the hardest part, but I’m working on it every day. When a difficult situation comes up, instead of trying to control it, I tell myself, God already knows how this will work out. He’s never let me down before, and He won’t start now.

If you’re going through a hard time right now, I want to remind you—you don’t have to figure it all out. You don’t have to carry the weight of the world on your own. God sees you, He loves you, and He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).

Let’s take a deep breath together and choose to trust Him, one day at a time.

With love,
Kimberly
